Special Release - Yemen Bait Subaih

Our final Special Release of 2019 is a special one, due not only to the flavour and quality of the coffee but also because of its origin. Since 2015 Yemen has been in a state of a humanitarian crisis due to a devastating civil war. Consequently, 8.5 million Yemenis are at risk of starvation and 22.2 million - 75% of the population -  is in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN.

“Because of the humanitarian crisis, we try to sustain all ourselves from our own farms” - Hameed Subaih, tribe of Bait Subaih.

In a time of great turmoil, we want to support Yemen's coffee industry to help provide financial security for the local farmers. Over the years, we’ve had a few coffees from Yemen on our menu, so it’s with wide arms that we welcome back another one.

Yemen, Bait Subaih comes to us from the Al-Subaih family’s beautiful, terraced 3-hectare farm, high in Yemen’s Sana’a region — one of the oldest coffee-growing regions in the world. Secured at the inaugural Qima Coffee Auction, Yemen’s largest, finest and most equitable coffee auction, we are proud to be able to support the family’s, and Yemen’s growth and stability, in a time of humanitarian crisis. You can see a video that Hameed Subaih made for us over  here.

Yemenese coffees typically draw similarities to natural Ethiopians with strong fruity flavours coming through. You can expect notes of strawberry and peach from Bait Subaih. As this is a Special Release coffee, we have a very limited amount, so get it while you can.
