How To Reload & Reuse Your Disposable Holiday Camera
Feeling crafty? Keep the fun going by reloading your “one-time use” Holiday camera with new film. Just a heads up, this is a bit tricky, so you’ll want some experience with film cameras. Results might vary.
To take apart your camera, you’ll need:
- A disposable camera with exposed film
- New film
- A box cutter
- Some wooden matchsticks or toothpicks
- A screwdriver or something similar for rewinding the film
Unlike regular cameras, where the film winds onto a reel, disposable cameras have the film coiled in a cassette.
- First off, only take apart the camera if all the 27 shots of your film are used and the rewind wheel turns easily. If it doesn’t, you could lose all your beautiful photos. If the winding wheel is good to go, let’s move on.
- Remove the cardboard packaging from your camera.
- Flip the camera over and unhook the latch near the film winding wheel.
- Open up the lid, located at the bottom of the camera, where the film roll is stored.
- Slide off the battery cover and take it out.
- Unlatch the other side of the camera case.
- Now, open up the camera and remove the roll of film ready to take to the developers.
- Load your new film into the camera and thread it onto the spool. Time to close it up and wind the film.
- For this, grab two matches or toothpicks. Stick one in the groove to block one wheel from moving, and use the other to lift the latch that stops the rewind wheel.
- While holding those matches in place, close the camera lid. Use your screwdriver to twist it into place through the hole below the coil. Remove the matches, and you’re all set! Your camera is good to go.
