There’s something about putting on a record that just hits differently. The quiet crackle before the first note, the ritual of flipping a side, the way sound fills a room, it’s an experience that invites you to slow down and really listen.
That same spirit runs through The Long Play, a new four-part podcast series from our friends at The Spinoff. Hosted by Charlotte Ryan and Duncan Greive, the series delves deep into the complex history of vinyl in Aotearoa, from its golden age to the wilderness years and its unlikely, yet powerful, comeback.
Over four episodes, Charlotte and Duncan trace the format’s journey with help from artists, collectors, and industry legends who lived it. Together, they explore why, in a world where almost anything can be streamed in seconds, people still reach for something they can hold, spin, and love to death.
We’re proud to be a partner on The Long Play alongside Holiday Records and Recorded Music NZ. Three local crews connected by a shared love for craft, culture, and good stories. Our part in this project? Keeping the coffee flowing while these tales of wax and wonder were told, and helping bring them to more ears around the country.
To celebrate, we’ve also got something special to give away: a handful of limited-edition vinyl pressings of The Long Play. Perfect for those long Sunday mornings with a mug of something Supreme by your side.
Head over to our Instagram to enter. Just tell us your favourite record of all time in the comments. Then, go have a listen to The Long Play at thespinoff.co.nz or wherever you get your podcasts.
Because some stories, like a good cup of coffee or a great record, deserve to be played again and again.
